Introducing Love Stories: A New Section Of Weeds, Wolves & Wild Women

My partner and I moved into a a beautiful new space on February 14th. A temporary space filled with literary history. Built in 1870, our little sublet is close to the land we now steward and where, according to the owner, “George Curtis edited Harper's magazine, wrote essays on transcendentalism, and argued for women's suffrage.” Apparently, this little home inspired some literary icons. This is where I’ll be writing (and hopefully finishing) my next book.

Knowing I’d be occupied on Valentine’s Day, I wrote and posted a piece in a new section of my Substack newsletter entitled ‘Love Stories.’ The piece for paid subscribers is entitled ‘Consumed By You.’ You can read most of it for free here.

I have always been pretty private about my private life and yet, I’ve found that relationships are one of my favorite things to explore through writing. When I wrote about my own intimate relationships in Awakening Artemis, I began to explore symbiotic relationships between fungi and their host trees, wildflowers and bumblebees, ants and acacia trees, monarch butterflies and milkweed. A relationship, like many in nature, that is so exclusive that when the milkweed disappears — the only food source for monarch caterpillars — so do the butterflies.

So, this new section of Weeds, Wolves & Wild Women will explore interspecies relationships as I meditate on my own intimate relationships and the nature of love. I’ll look at species that cannot live without each other. The way I feel about my beloved when I have fallen deeply. This a special section for paid subscribers. Hope you’ll join me there.
