Body of Earth: Women and Creation

“We are women. We rise from the wave. We are gazelle and doe, elephant and whale, lilies and roses and peach, we are air, we are flame, we are oyster and pearl, we are girls. We are woman and nature. And he says he cannot hear us speak.

But we hear.”

‘Body Soveirgnty’ by @lazybeamearte

The fertile soil of the feminine is the earth below where roots take hold, and within our bodies where creation occurs. Our bodies are inseparable from the body of Earth.

The womb is a space of creative energy and women have the right to honor that space in any way they choose. Having a child doesn’t have to be one of those choices. Many women I know, myself included, have made conscious decisions not to have a child. The choice — whether or not to bring a child into the world — should be solely in the hands of the body that may or may not bring it forth.  The right to our own bodies is the most basic expression of being human.

Abortion is health care. One in four women has had an abortion in their lifetime. I've chosen to have two. They were incredibly difficult decisions and took a long time to heal from, but I know they were the right ones. The difficult decision and trauma of abortion are enough to bear.

Let’s tell our stories, release unnecessary shame, grieve, take care of each other, and spring into action.
